RE: Survey: Websphere Anyone? ~Umberto Nongeroson 13.May.03 05:09 PM a Web browser Domino Server 6.0.1Windows 2000
Like you, I think my company (and our sister companies which also run Domino - around 10K seats total) will wind up migrating off Domino if IBM tries to force us to Websphere.
I've worked with Domino for over six years at previous companies, but the company I'm at now had only been on Domino for about a year so we were still a recent win for IBM. Therefore, they were theoretically on stable ground and really didn't have anything to lose when we invited them in for a luncheon presentation with all of our sister companies' CIOs. The technical presenter basically caused great doubt about Domino's future here because he kept saying that there were "two roads" but that they would eventually merge into one, which has since been contradicted by the strategies presented at Lotusphere. The problem is trying to figure out which presentation(s) are we and the rest of Lotus' customer base supposed to believe? I think that if they stick with what they presented at Lotusphere, which is that the existing Domino path will stay intact but you could choose to "upgrade" to Nextgen/Websphere, then they'll be okay. However, if they force my company (and the other companies I used to be at) to go to Websphere, they'll be gone in a heartbeat.
